Coller Institute Exclusive – New Ground Breaking Research on Private Equity Performance
Professor Chris Higson, London Business School
Private equity is often perceived as an opaque industry. Unlike the stock market, where performance is easily observable, there is generally no active market for private equity assets with market prices. Several academic studies have attempted to shed light on the industry’s performance. These papers have suggested that private equity’s performance has not been as great as the industry makes out, with returns no better than the stock market comparator.
This event will showcase a ground breaking piece of new research on private equity performance which questions the results of previous studies and the data utilised. Professor Chris Higson, London Business School and Dr Ruediger Stucke, Said Business School have assembled a unique, high quality data set of fund cash flows and show that previous studies have significantly understated private equity returns.
In a Coller Institute exclusive, Chris Higson will discuss the results of the paper.
